Adjusting Your Splint

Adjusting Your Ring Splint

Ring splints are designed to fit precisely, but minor adjustments can sometimes be needed as your fingers change with swelling, temperature, or activity. Here's what you need to know about adjusting your splint safely.

When Might You Need to Adjust?

  • Your splint feels too tight or too loose after wearing it for a few days.
  • Your finger swells seasonally or throughout the day.
  • You've lost or gained weight, affecting your finger size.
  • The splint no longer sits correctly over the joint.

Adjustable Splints

If your splint is adjustable, follow the instructions below:

  • Too tight: Decrease the distance between the top and bottom loops first. To loosen further, gently stretch the band slightly using your fingers. Make small, gradual adjustments to avoid over-stretching.
  • Too loose: Increase the distance between the top and bottom loops first. To tighten further, gently squeeze the band inward with your fingers. Again, make small adjustments and check the fit frequently.
  • Avoid large repeated adjustments, as this can weaken the metal over time.

Fixed-Size Splints

Fixed-size splints generally cannot be adjusted at home. If your fit has changed significantly, please contact us to discuss a replacement or resize.
